At an award ceremony on Thursday 19th September Aberdeen was shortlisted in 2 categories at the COSLA Excellence Awards.
In the category for ‘achieving better outcomes for the most vulnerable’ My Way to Employment was chosen. This project improved opportunities for people engaged in the justice system through the development of community and prison employability pathways and support. We are delighted to say that we won!
Thanks to Angela Taylor from Aberdeen City Council and Nicola Graham from Skills Development Scotland who led the project. The project has been a successful collaboration between Aberdeen City Council, Skills Development Scotland, HMP Grampian, Greene King, CFine, DWP, NESCol and Third Sector partners.
In the category for ‘tackling inequalities and improving health and wellbeing’ we were shortlisted for Reaching Out to People at Risk and Removing Barriers to Accessing Drug Support. This project has made significant strides in increasing engagement with drug services by focusing on individual needs. The project has also increased the supply of naloxone through non-Drug and Alcohol services. Naloxone is a quick acting and safe medication which can reverse opioid overdose. Whilst we were unsuccessful in this category just being nominated is an outstanding achievement and of course, the work of colleagues remains significantly important to our core organisational purpose.
Thanks to Lucy Simpson, Aberdeen City Council, Simon Rayner, Aberdeen City Health and Social Care Partnership and Simon Pringle, Alcohol and Drugs Action (ADA). The project has been a successful collaboration between Aberdeen City Council, ACHSCP, Alcohol and Drugs Action, Alcohol and Drugs Partnership, Police Scotland, NHS Grampian.
Congratulations to everyone involved. Recognition and appreciation of colleagues’ efforts at a national level is something to be proud of.
